Prepositions (2) Deverbal prepositions

These are prepositions that were once participles (i.e. derived from verbs), but whose popular use has forced the grammar police to accept that they act like prepositions, and cannot be charged with the disgusting offence of dangling.

They are:

According to
Allowing for
Barring
Concerning
Counting (usually as not counting)
Excepting
Excluding
Failing
Following
Given
Gone (as in It is gone half-past two already)
Granted
Including
Owing to
Pertaining to
Regarding
Respecting
Saving
Touching
Wanting

And last because also least, the highly irritating new kid: "going forward"
